About Coach White
Peter R. White Graduated from Farrell High School (School of Champions) in Western PA in 1959,
and Gannon University in Erie PA with a BA 1964 Med 1967
Taught School and coached Boys Basketball at St Gregory High School Closed ( North East PA 1965-
68.(Closed 1970). St Gregory had never had a winning season in their history. In his second year
1966-67 St Gregory had their first winning season and their 1967-68 Team was inducted into the North
East PA Hall of Fame as the smallest school to ever appear in a State Championship Game, St Gregory
had 62 students grades 9-12, Milan High School of the movie Hoosiers had 161 students.
Taught and coached at Redbank Valley High School, New Bethlehem, PA 1968-1976. Redbank Valley
had never had a winning season in basketball in their 52 year history. In Coach White’s third year 1971
Redbank Valley had it’s first winning season and in 1974 won it’s only District IX Championship.
Taught and Coached at Williamsport High School, Williamsport, PA from 1976-1997. At Williamsport
High School while playing in the highest classification at that time AAAA Coach White’s teams won 19
out of 21 including 17 Consecutive District Championships, both a PA state record, 12 consecutive first
round PIAA tournament victories, a state record and was the first Big AAAA Big School undefeated
state Champions 30-0. Coach White three time PA Big School “Coach of the Year” was 16-2 against
Future NBA Players. Coach White inducted into three different “Halls of Fame”retired after the
1997 season with one of the best winning percentages in Pennsylvania Schoolboy history.
